The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Open House at the new Alachua County Sports and Events Center takes place Saturday, June 10, featuring appearances by Gators Cheerleaders and Albert and Alberta, sports activities, food trucks, and more.

The Alachua County Board of County Commissioners is investing $30 million in a public-private partnership with Celebration Pointe to construct the Southeast’s premier indoor sports event facility. Conveniently located directly off I-75 in the heart of Celebration Pointe, the facility will host track and field, basketball, volleyball, cheer, gymnastics, and more. Funded through a $30 million commitment of tourist development tax, the facility is expected to generate over 110,000 annual room nights for local lodging providers and at least a billion dollars in economic output, including $392 million dollars in wages and nearly $24 million in county sales tax and related tourism and development taxes.

Visitors can dine, shop and stay within the walkable Celebration Pointe and Butler Plaza areas, which offer thousands of hotel rooms, dining for all tastes and budgets, and hundreds of retail stores.

The Alachua County Sports and Events Center is located at 4870 Celebration Pointe Drive, Gainesville. The ±143,892 sf facility is currently under construction at Celebration Pointe and is scheduled to be completed in January 2023.
