The United Nations Association Gainesville Chapter celebrates the 80th anniversary of the United Nations’ founding in 1945. The UN was founded after World Wars I and II to promote peace and cooperation among all nations. This year’s theme is “UN for a Better Future.”

The program features keynote speaker Ellen R. Siegel of the CLEO Institute on “The Power of We: Creating a Livable Future on a Warming Planet.” The CLEO Institute reports that Climate Change costs the world $16 billion an hour.

Isabella Villa Urrego, UNA Youth Council Chair, will provide updates on community activities. The Annual UNA Service Award will be presented to Dr. Taraneh Darabi, local chair of UNICEF–the UN Children’s Foundation, CEDAW–for women’s rights, and co-founder of the UNA Gainesville Chapter.

Registration is required. $25 per person includes a delicious buffet lunch prepared on-site by Oak Hammock chefs plus musical entertainment.
