This is a 5-day sale (Saturday-Wednesday) of more than 500,000 gently used books, games, art, music, movies, CDs, records, Manga and much more at BARGAIN prices for the benefit of the Alachua County Library District Projects. Most items are priced between 25 cents and $4. Tuesday all items are half price. Wednesday all items are 10 cents.
Free and open to the public, this is one of the largest semiannual used book sales in the Southeastern USA. After a 2 year hiatus due to COVID, we resumed these sales last fall and now continue our tradition, which began more than 60 years ago for the Gainesville community. We host this event in our Bookhouse which is almost as large as a football field. Our volunteers are there to provide maps and assistance to help everyone find their way, including to our special Collector’s Corner which houses many rare, first edition and signed volumes.
This fun sale has something for everyone. There are children’s and young adult books, foreign language books, science, math, chemistry, physics, and engineering books. There are novels, biographies, mysteries, and sci-fi books, as well as classic literature, poetry, and short stories. Check out sports and photography books. There are foreign and domestic travel books to take you around the world and maps to bring you home. Do-it-yourselfers, and stamp and coin collectors will find much to choose from. You will discover cookbooks, handicraft books, needlework patterns, craft books, and magazines galore. There are many dictionaries and reference books for your edification. One will love the computer table with manuals and books, Photoshop guides, video games (PC, Nintendo, and other consoles), and CDs. There are music scores for keyboard and instruments, as well as 78 rpm albums and CDs of classical, jazz, and popular music. Plenty of women’s studies, architecture, History, WW2, psychology, and sociology books are available. Nursing and medicine books are popular, as well as biology books on nature, birds, insects, mammals, trees, plants and ecology. Sailing ships, sea stories and airplanes might tickle your fancy. If the books on politics, law, and philosophy aren’t your cup of tea, perhaps the selections of humor are! You might also enlighten yourself with a set of The Great Courses DVDs. And when your eyes become so, so tired, you may find one of the many audiobooks and tapes to take home! A good time will be had by young and old alike!
