Celebrate African American music appreciation month with the Cotton Club Museum and Cultural Center and a screening of the 1993 British production “Porgy & Bess,” the opera composed by George Gershwin. It tells the story of Porgy, a disabled Black street beggar living in the slums of Charleston. It deals with his attempts to rescue Bess from the clutches of Crown, her violent and possessive lover, and Sportin’ Life, her drug dealer. The film will be followed by a short discussion.
