Overview

Learn how historical records can uncover forgotten stories during Finding Unheard Voices in Public Records and Documents with author Coleen DeGroff. Drawing from her research for Alachua County Black Book: Accounts of Enslaved People Discovered in Ancient Records, DeGroff will discuss how public archives, wills, bills of sale, mortgages and other documents revealed the lives of hundreds of enslaved people in Alachua County between 1815 and 1865. This free program offers insight into local history, archival research and preserving overlooked voices.
