The Center for Arts, Migration + Entrepreneurship and its community partners will host the Afrofuturism Week Kickoff Party at the Blount Center to begin the 2026 celebration. Guests will learn about the vision behind Afrofuturism Week while enjoying music, art activities, and refreshments. Participants of all ages will be invited to take part in screen-printing and comic-drawing sessions led by local artists. A pop-up library with local writer Terri Bailey will highlight notable Afrofuturist authors and include a book giveaway.
The event is sponsored by the Bailey Learning and Arts Collective, Santa Fe College, the Center for African Studies, and the Sequential Artists Workshop, with support from Visit Gainesville, Alachua County. More information about Afrofuturism Week events and involvement opportunities can be found through the Afrofuturism Week online portal.
