Join the Cotton Club Museum and Cultural Center to celebrate Emancipation Day in Florida, beginning with a community walk from Depot Park, led by Mrs. Vivian Filer and Mayor Harvey Ward.

After the march, enjoy music, dance, exhibits and educational activities, screenings of the mini-documentary “Before Juneteenth: Emancipation in Florida” and a variety of vendors including food. Celebrations include the plaiting of a maypole and a memorial service honoring fallen African American Civil War soldiers. Learn about Gainesville’s history, support the museum, and celebrate the emancipation of the enslaved.

This event is part of the City of Gainesville’s “Journey to Juneteenth” programming and is in partnership with historic neighborhoods in Gainesville. Admission is free.
