Y No Había Luz: La Mar

Millions of people cross borders daily. Families and strangers jump into the sea in boats, hoping for a better life and to prosper in a new land. Crossing from one side to the other requires courage and a process of spiritual, physical, and emotional transformation. Crossing from one side to another, moving from one decision to another, is something we do every day. This new original production tells one of the many stories of crossing the sea of life—traveling between reality and fantasy across a sea of uncertainties, challenges, and the unknown.
UF School of Theatre and Dance partner with the Puerto Rican theatre collectives Y No Había Luz and Arte y Maña to create an original piece that transforms the theatrical space through physical theatre, clowning, Cantatoria, and in the design and creation of puppets and theatrical objects. Through this collaboration, we will reflect on the importance of solidarity and demonstrate the role of the arts as a vehicle for healing.
