Unity of Gainesville Hosts In-depth Workshop on Aging

According to the 2020 U.S. Census, 21.1% of Florida’s population is over the age of 65. “Most have worked the majority of their lives and are possibly facing life alone, with huge amounts of free time, and perhaps on a reduced income. So many of these seniors are not prepared for the changes they will experience as they reach 65 and/or retire,” says Dr. Christina Gilman, a psychotherapist with experience in teaching seniors how to successfully navigate life as an elder.
To facilitate the development of elder life skills, Unity of Gainesville will host a workshop by Dr. Gilman in late March and early April on “Sage-ing While Aging: Creating Gold in Your Golden Years.” Topics covered include spiritual skills for enjoying aging, writing your legacy will, practicing assertiveness in the face of agism, writing your obituary, establishing future goals, and identifying the advantages of being a senior.
Held on six Tuesdays from 10:30-Noon at Unity of Gainesville, sessions will include meditation, prayers, journaling, and confidential sharing. The workshops are open to the public on March 14, 21 and 28TH as well as April 4, 11, and 18th at Unity of Gainesville, 8801 NW 39TH Avenue. Registration is $60 or $12 per session.
