Opening and Closings in Poetry and in Prose

As part of a Poetry Month Celebration, Lola Haskins, poet and author will speak via Zoom on “openings and closings” first with poetry then contrast these principles with prose. Haskins, 13th book, her most recent is Asylum: Improvisions on John Clare (University of Pittsburg Press, 2019), preceded by How Small, Confronting Morning (Jacar)Two poetry books, The Grace to Leave (Anhinga) and Still, the Mountain (Paper Kite) won Florida Book Awards. Her previous collections include Desire Lines, New and Selected Poems (BOA Editions) and Rim Benders (Arhinga) Two of her out-of-print books Extranjera and Hunger (which won Iowa Poetry Prize) will be re-issued by Red Hen this year.
Her prose works include Fifteen Florida Cemeteries, Strange Tales Unearthed (University Press of Florida), and a big-sister advice book, Not Feathers Yet: A Beginners Guide to the Poetic Life, originally from Backwaters Press, now re-issued by the University of Nebraska Press.
