Why support is needed for the recording grant:
Since mid-2021, MusicGNV has helped to grow the Gainesville music scene by offering support to artists looking to record new material through our quarterly recording grant. We have supported the recording and release of music from Madwoman, rugh, Suddenly, Purple Kloud, Sky Lucas, and many more amazing artists.
The MusicGNV Recording Grant provides one Gainesville-based artist or band per quarter with 1 weekend of studio time. By the end of the process, the grant recipient will walk away with professionally recorded and mixed music along with professionally produced portraiture and a live video as well.
Time in a recording studio can be extremely cost-prohibitive to up-and-coming artists. Professional studio time averages $50-100 per hour in this area, with a single song taking a number of hours to record, mix and master. The portraiture and video production included in the grant would cost a band in the hundreds or thousands to produce by hiring professionals on their own. Many gigs in Gainesville pay in the $100-200 range on a good night. You can see that the numbers don’t add up for most bands to record from band earnings, which is why the grant steps in to meet this need for Gainesville’s emerging artists.
They are extremely grateful for initial partners who helped finance this program but as of April 2023, they will need to transition into a community funding model for the grant program.
In other words, if you want to see this innovative program continue, you now have the opportunity to do just that!
