Join Tuesdays in February at 12:15 p.m. for 25-minute concerts with guest musicians from the University of Florida followed by lunch. Bring your own or purchase a lunch for $3. RSVP via phone or email for lunch purchase. Convenient FREE PARKING in church lot.
Lunchtime features Dr. Hsiang Tu, Assistant Professor of Piano at the University of Florida, in a program entitled “Ivory Menagerie – Piano Music Inspired by Animals” :
How do composers capture the sound, movement, and temperament of animals? Dr. Tu will perform a program that explores this question. From butterfly to donkey and penguin to porcupine, these pieces will excite, surprise, and delight audiences of all ages!
Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Dr. Hsiang Tu debuted in New York at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center as the winner of The Juilliard School Concerto Competition and has performed in venues all over the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, National Museum Cardiff, and National Recital Hall in Taipei.
Before being appointed as an Assistant Professor of Piano at the University of Florida, Dr. Tu taught at Virginia Tech, the University of New Hampshire, Utah Valley University, and Snow College. He studied with Hung-Kuan Chen, Jerome Lowenthal, and HaeSun Paik, and holds a B.M. in Piano Performance from the University of Calgary and an M.M. and D.M.A. in Piano Performance from The Juilliard School. His debut solo CD, Bestiary on Ivory, is on Bridge Records, and an upcoming CD featuring the music of Chopin will be released in 2023.
