Buchholz High School Drama Produces Tony Award-Winning Spring Musical
Into the Woods hits the stage with an epic fairytale about wishes, family and the choices we make.
Gainesville FL – James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone’s favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece and a rare modern classic. Into the Woods reminds us that there will be times when each of us must journey into the woods, but that we must mind the future and the past.
The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them.
One of Sondheim’s most popular works, Into the Woods is a musically sophisticated show with the opportunity to feature actors adept at dark comedy. Designers especially enjoy highlighting the fantastical elements of this magical word. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.
Buchholz Orchestra joins the stage to provide live musical accompaniment. This musical production is sure to delight audiences with an impressive set and talented cast. Buchholz Players brought home Top Honors at the State Thespians Festival Competition under the leadership of Ted Lewis.
Into the Woods runs April 27 – May 7 with Thursday through Saturday shows at 7PM, and Sunday matinees at 2PM. Ticket Prices are $15 general admission, $10 Students & Seniors, free for BHS faculty. Group tickets for 10 or more please contact bobcatdrama1452@gmail.com.
