Jean-Louis – a Haitian-born, New York-raised artist and visual activist – will discuss her work on view in AWE-some. Her exquisite photographs evoke the privilege and luxury of 18th and 19th century aristocratic portraiture which she subjects to historical and feminist critique by centering Black subjects.
