Artist Talk: Esterio Segura

Artist Esterio Segura (Cuba, 1970) will discuss his work on display in the exhibition Under the Spell of the Palm Tree: The Rice Collection of Cuban Art. The artist behind the sculpture titled Hybrid of a Chrysler (versión con pasaporte) (version with passport), showcased outside the museum, will take us through his explorations involving travel, machines and hybrids. He will delve into how these explorations of flight and travel archetypes enable him to convey ideas about change, emigration and freedom. The public is encouraged to actively participate in the discussion by sharing their comments and posing questions. A reception will follow the talk.
Situated between Madrid and Havana, Esterio Segura is a graduate of the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) in Havana. He stands as a prominent figure among the Cuban artists of the 1990s generation. Segura’s artistic style seamlessly merges symbols of popular culture with elements of mythological, political and religious iconography.
