20th Annual Gainesville Latino Film Festival

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with the Gainesville Latino Film Festival, starting Thursday, September 12 at the Harn Museum and lasts three weeks. The closing ceremony takes place Sunday, September 29 at UF Smathers Library.

The festival welcomes international filmmakers Carlos Andres Vera from Ecuador (This Stolen Country of Mine and Propagandia) and Miguel Ferrer from Venezuela (The Shadow of the Sun).

View an art gallery on the 3rd floor of the Santa Fe College Blount Center with Latin American artists showcasing their work. The gallery opening takes place,  Saturday, September 14, 6 p.m.

Enjoy live music at two concerts:
Noche de Baile with Tropix and Gilberto de Paz
Saturday, September 14, 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Noche Latina with Elio Piedra at Bo Diddley Plaza
Friday, September 20, 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.

CHILDREN’S FILM FESTIVAL: LWL is organizing a one-day film festival for children at the Headquarters library with a showing of Encanto, bilingual storytelling and crafts for kids.

KIDS & FAMILY AFTERNOONS: Blount Hall Auditorium, SFC downtown campus in partnership with Latina Women’s League will be holding on Saturdays at 3PM two movies for kids. One is on September 14th (Coco) and another one on 21st (Vivo).

TEEN’S NIGHTS: LWL in partnership with Blount Hall Auditorium, SFC downtown campus has also organized two Fridays, titled nights for teens and young adults. Movies are related to their ages. One is an animated movie “Home Is Somewhere Else” September 13 and the other one is a comedy on political candidacies “The Candidate” September 20.

More films for Teens and Young Adults:
Besides the two movies at SFC, LWL is showing at the Matheson History Museum a video game movie titled “Propagandia” at 6 p.m. The movie is related to how political propaganda was used in Ecuador during the latest presidential elections.

And at Center for Independent Living (CIL) another movie for young adults, titled The Shadow of the Sun. The movie is about a deaf young man who challenged his brother to stop doing things for a living and reach his dream.

INTERNATIONAL FOOD FESTIVAL: Latina Women’s League is organizing a food festival with UF student organizations, UF International Center and the ICEC (India Fest).

FOLKLORIC DANCES: LWL is bringing from Tampa, a Panamanian Folkloric dance group: Conjunto de Proyecciones Folklóricas [CPF] (Set of Folkloric Projections) Recuerdos de mi Panamá (Memories of my Panama).
