2018 ACYO Winter Concert
December 9, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
The Alachua County Youth Orchestra (ACYO) is pleased to announce its Winter Concert on Sunday, December 9, at 7:30 p.m. on UF’s campus at the Curtis M. Phillips, M.D. Center for the Performing Arts, located in the UF Cultural Plaza at Hull Road and NW 34th Street. The Winter Concert is one of two free concerts performed annually for the public by the ACYO. This public performance showcases talented middle school and high school string, brass, woodwind and percussion players under the direction of UF Professor Emeritus Gary Langford, former director of the University of Florida’s concert band, marching band and jazz band. This year’s Winter Concert features classical compositions and holiday favorites: The Greatest Showman, Polar Express, Farandole from L’Arlesienne Suite No. 2, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Sleigh Ride, S’Vivon, Frosty the Snowman, and Holiday Sing-a-Long.
ACYO, the only full orchestral experience for high school and most middle school youth in Alachua County, is composed of students from 6th-12th grades who audition yearly to be a part of the orchestra. This year’s 96 musicians practice approximately two hours a week throughout the year. ACYO has been in existence for over 40 years providing free concerts for the residents of Alachua and surrounding counties.
Please come join us for a night of holiday music.
