Whether you are an early riser or a night owl, you can join GLFF fans to watch “La Soledad”, Jorge Thielen-Armand’s 2016 drama filmed in Venezuela.

“Combining sharp social critique with the offbeat poetry of magical realism, La Soledad offers an engaging portrait of the effects of economic catastrophe on individuals’ lives…La Soledad not only offers a lyrical evocation of a decaying world but also opens up new possibilities for documentary cinema.” – INSTITUTE OF CONTEMPORARY ARTS, LONDON UK

The Latina Women’s League is proudly partnering with the UF Samuel Proctor Oral History Program to present the 16th annual Gainesville Latino Film Festival (GLFF). The GLFF is Gainesville’s Largest Latin American and Latinx cultural/educational event. It is held during Hispanic Heritage Month, as a celebration that highlights Latinx and Latin American film directors, actors, and critics; and engages with other performers and creators practicing the arts.

GLFF 2020 brings a Spanish Film Club Series with obras from Colombia, Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina, Cuba, and the US; lauded at festivals in Chicago, Mar de Plata, Venice, Tallinn, Havana, and Seattle. We’ll bring you events organized with previous Festival partners–the Harn Museum of Art, the Florida Museum of Natural History, the UF Center for Humanities in the Public Sphere–and with two new partners: Galleria118 and Wayfaring Painter. And don’t miss Festival de Sabores Latinos, our nod to last year’s culinary crowd pleasers.

This year’s theme, “Unity In Community, Unidad En Comunidad,” reinforces the need for togetherness during these precarious times. So bring your friends & family together at home or on the web and join the Festival! For more information see our events posted on the GLFF Facebook page or at www.gainesvillelatinofilmfestival.com.

This Festival is funded in part by the City of Gainesville, Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department; the UF Samuel Proctor Oral History Program; and the UF Center for Latin American Studies. The Spanish Film Club series was made possible with the support of Pragda, SPAIN arts & culture and the Secretary of State for Culture of Spain.
