VisitGainesville and the Alachua County Hospitality Council are kicking off a week long series of events celebrating National Tourism Week (NTW) May 10-18, 2008. The first event is the 16th Annual Bed making Contest Monday, May 12 at Wayne’s Bedding 3265 SW 34th Street from 9-11 a.m. Local hotel staff compete to make the fastest and best bed for a cash prize. Albert the Alligator is there to judge which hotel has the most spirit in support of their contestants.

Other events during National Tourism Week include: A Chef Contest at Eastside High School on Monday, May 12 at Noon; a Tourism Week Proclamation Reading at the Alachua County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, May 13 at 9 a.m.; the announcement of the winners of the Alachua County Lodging Beautification and Service Awards on Wednesday, May 14 at noon; and ending the week with the Gainesville’s Amazing Race at 9 a.m. and Moe’s Burrito Eating Contest at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 17 both at Westside Park.
