The Mill Creek Retirement Farm for horses provides lifetime care for more than 100 horses, including those used in police patrol, circus horses, and those rescued by the SPCA or Humane Societies.

Days Open: Saturday

Located on 245 acres of sprawling green pastures, Mill Creek Horse Retirement Farm gives horses a healthy and comfortable place to live. In many cases this is a welcome change, as they were victims of mistreatment. At Mill Creek the horses roam freely - they are never ridden or worked again. Located just north of Alachua, it’s been open as a nonprofit since 1984.

As a nonprofit, the Retirement Farm for Horses relies on private contributions, which amounts to about $1,800 per horse per year. You may wish to “adopt” a horse for $40 per month. Adopters receive an adoption certificate and a new photo of their horse every few months and any Saturday may visit, groom, and talk to their horse. Volunteers may also assist with grooming on Thursday or Saturday mornings, 9 until noon.

Hours are limited to Saturdays from 11a-3p. Call ahead or email rhh@millcreekfarm.org. Admission: 2 carrots :-)
Located 18 miles northwest from Gainesville (you may have to "zoom out" to see location on map below).
