A gateway to the past.

Ever wonder what it was like living on a cotton plantation during the Civil War? Maybe you're curious to know how farming has evolved over the past century and a half. Just in case our museums aren't quite authentic enough for you, Gainesville has a few other historic places we'd like to invite you to visit during your stay. Take a walk around the Majorie Kinnan Rawlings State Park and experience the environment where the famed author wrote The Yearling, or see the writings on the wall, literally, at the Haile Homestead at Kanapaha Plantation. Have a meeting in the Thomas Center, or bring in the harvest at Dudley Farm. Wherever you choose to go, Gainesville's historical sites and places are sure to offer an eye opening door to the past.
